Yewande Oyediran, the female lawyer who allegedly stabbed her husband, late Lowo Oyediran to death on February 2, in Akobo Area of Ibadan, appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Oyo state on Tuesday, February 16.
The lady, who was helped into the court by prison officials, buried her face in shame so as not to allow her photographs be taken by pressmen as well as the interested public.
Yewande was arraigned at Magistrate Court Iyaganku, presided over by Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani. At the brief hearing of the case, the police officer investigating the case, Amos Adewale, informed the Chief Magistrate that based on legal advice from Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), the Magistrate’s court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case and so the case should be transferred to the state High court.
It was gathered that Mrs Yewande works with the DPP in Oyo State, which has caused fear among the deceased’s family members that they may not get justice in the matter.
The Chief Magistrate, however adjourned the case till March 1st and Yewande was taken back to Agodi prison where she has been locked up since the attack happened.
It will be recalled, the accused was arraigned before the court on February 5, 2016 on a one-count charge of murder.
She allegedly committed the offence, contrary to and punishable under the Laws of Oyo State. According to the charge: On February 2, 2016 “at about 6:10am at No 30 Abidi Odan, Akobo area, Ibadan in the Ibadan Magisterial District (Yewande) did unlawfully caused the death of one Oyelowo Oyediran, 38, by stabbing him with a knife on the neck, which later resulted to his death”.
