The Lagos Fashion and Design Week sponsored by Heineken ran through October 25th to 28th at the EKo Atlantic. The event featured about 50 fashion shows, alongside showrooms, after-parties, and discussion panels with business leaders and designers.
Here are highlights from the event:
Celebrities, fashion and beauty bloggers hit the runway
At the just concluded Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017, celebrities, beauty and fashion bloggers strut the runway for different designers. Former Miss World, Agbani Darego walked the runway first for the Maybelline collection, before stepping out in a bridal gown from Andrea Iyamah.
Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke was on the runway for Menswear designer, Johnson Johnson while media personality, Denrele Edun walked the runway for Kinabuti, trust him to bring his weird and energetic is character to play.
OAP, Tolu Oniru-Demuren popularly known as Toolz was one of the plus size models that strut the runway for ‘About That Curvy Life’ a collection for plus sized people. She was the cynosure of eyes in a long flowing gown with a plunging neckline.
Osas Ighodaro walked for DNA by Iconic Invanity with former BBA finalist, Beverly Osu walking the runway for Kiki Kimanu in a zebra print gown with red trimmings. Mavin records artist, Dija performed for the models wearing Sunny Rose and walked the runway in an outfit by the brand as well.
While leveraging on the existing collaboration between himself and bespoke designer Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Nigerian musician Davido graced the runway for Orange Culture. As his pop single ‘If’ played in the background, the singer took a bow and thanked the audience. This moment came a surprise to many and it was evident as the room went in an uproar at the singer’s appearance.
Mai Atafo Brought Beauty And The Beast To The Runway!
Ace designer, Mai Atafo was the last to showcase on Day 3 of the event. The designer had the crowd cheering endlessly with the drama filled presentation as he brought the ‘Beauty & The Beast’ to the runway! He wore a blue suede suit while Bunmi Olunoyo, a ballet dancer who was his partner for the night wore a flowing yellow dress that befits a princess.
Heineken Unveiled Its African Inspired Collection
Heineken closed the show on day 4 by launching its first-ever African fashion collection. The beer brand collaborated with Africa’s emerging talents Lulu Mutuli and Azra Walji, The collection, which is a fusion of the two designers’ concepts and is the first of many design apprenticeships that the brand will roll out across the world, going next to Asia. The initiative is the next chapter in Heineken’s ‘Open Design Explorations’, a global co-creation programme that connects emerging Creatives and gives them a platform to showcase their talent.
The designs will be produced across Africa to be worn by Heineken ambassadors throughout Nigeria, East Africa and beyond. Tiwa Savage closed the show that night with an amazing performance.

Business man and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu surprised participants of the master class at the Fashion Business Series on Saturday when he joined key players in the fashion industry to impact knowledge. “Have a vision, stay focused, be passionate,” he said.
Newton & David and The Assembly Host The Creators Lounge by The Assembly
Newton & David, Nigeria’s pioneering events and décor company and The Assembly, Nigeria’s new fashion and creative hub teamed up to host the #CreatorsLounge at Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017. With a very welcoming ambience, the Creators Lounge was designed to be a style haven for bloggers/press and content creators, giving them the opportunity to connect, and create content during the fashion week.
