The other three were rescued earlier. All five persons were taken to the emergency unit of the Lagos Island General Hospital by emergency workers from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency drafted to the scene.
Efforts to rescue other victims were on at press time yesterday, with the police providing security for the rescue workers. Daily Trust gathered that the building at No. 5, Swamp Street, off Odunfa Street by Adeniji Adele Road, came down after giving signs of weakness.
Abdullateef Olatunji, an occupant of the house, told Daily Trust that he noticed that the building was about to collapse and raised an alarm which alerted occupants. He said more people would have been trapped, especially on the ground floor, if the alarm had not come.
NEMA South west region spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, said four persons were rescued while no death was recorded at press time, but that search for other trapped victims continued.
