An unfortunate incident occurred at about 12am this morning. The popular Kaduna food stuff market was gutted by fire causing a great damage to the city and its citizens.
This happened when the market was empty and all of the traders had returned home for the day. The fire, which was reportedly caused by a fire surge, destroyed most of the market, which was known for its cheap prices for food items such as rice, yams, beans, live birds, fruits among other consumables.
No fewer than 700 shops were burnt in the incident, which traders told Channels TV “could have been averted if the previous government had listened to their demand for permanent blocks of shops instead of the make-shift shops that can easily be gutted by fire.”
